Welcome

Hello,

If you are reading this, I’m very glad you are here. My name is Kaytlin Bovey, or Kayti. I am an aspiring author and a freelance writer. I’d like to explain a little bit about myself, and then go into why I am making this blog.

I was born and raised in Arizona and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when I graduated high school. Initially, I moved away from home to start a new life on my own, under the guise of going to college. I like to consider myself a pretty independent person, but mostly, I am just a dreamer. Moving and starting a life on my own was part of that. I had always dreamt of living on my own and I was very grateful to have family in Kalamazoo that were willing to help me jumpstart this new portion of my life. I quickly got a job and purchased a car, beginning to navigate life for real, now. I wasn’t completely on my own, aforementioned family in the area was helpful at first, and my parents helped support me financially until I was able to get on my feet. I enrolled in community college, not really knowing what I wanted to do, just knowing that I wanted to do something. I pondered my major for a long time before deciding to study English. Literature has always been a passion of mine, so it seemed like a natural fit to study it more.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer, whether I always considered it a career path or not. I can remember making up stories and writing them down in composition notebooks as far back as fourth or fifth grade. My best friend and I would make up these stories, write them down, and then act them out on the playground. Over the years, I developed these stories as well as others. I’m almost embarrassed to admit but in the golden age of fandom, I would write fanfiction of some of my favorite fandoms. SuperWhoLock, anyone?! Some of those fanfictions I wrote inspired me to write more original stories, with my own characters, so while it might be embarrassing to admit, I am thankful that I wrote those stories; it meant I was still creating. It was in high school when I began the planning stages of the novel I am currently working on.

After college, I didn’t know how I could make a career with this passion that I have. Sure, I can write my novels and publish them, hoping that would make a career for myself, but how will I pay the bills in the meantime? This is where the freelancing attempt comes in. I was inspired by creators on various social media sites who freelance, and I thought I could do that, too. I’m still working on getting that off the ground, and really hope that this can be something profitable for me while I work on my novels. I am on Fiverr and Upwork, searching for work almost daily and publishing gigs.

I am writing this blog to help keep me accountable as I work on my novels and my career as a writer. I’ll post things here weekly to update on my progress, or just things in life that I feel like talking about. I enjoy multiple forms of media and might post content about new media I consume, particularly books, as I have challenged myself to read a lot more this year than I have in the past few years. Currently, I’m falling behind on that challenge, as I’m still working on my first book of the year.

Anyway, this has been a little bit about me and what can be expected from this blog. I hope you follow along on my journey, and am excited to see where this goes.

Thank you,

Kayti Bovey
